Crime Prevention Unit is responsible for control and prevention of crime. Apart from traditional law enforcement activities, the Windhoek City Police Service has four (4) operational strategies aimed to prevent crime through partnership with the community and problem-solving approach.

The following are the Windhoek City Police Service Crime Prevention Pillars:

Under intelligence led policing, all offenders are profiled and their movements are closely monitored using various operational methods such us technology, informants and assistance from community members. It is through this means that we are able to prevent many planned criminal activities or force criminals to abandon their intended plans.

The service has realigned its operational model and demarcated the City of Windhoek into twenty two (22) operational Zones. Each zone has permanent patrol members who are focused and can claim ownership of the area through building optimum relationship with the community. this has enhanced trust between police and the community, and it has tremendously improved police response time for calls for service.

CCTV- the CCTV is another proactive crime prevention technological tool that we use, aimed to compliment the conventional crime prevention methods that our law enforcement officers are applying on day to day basis.

We have over 125 surveillance cameras installed at the crime prone areas in and around the city, and they are monitored 24 hours by trained City Police officers operating

Community policing is the core policing concept of the Windhoek City Police Service, as it puts emphasis on community involvement. It includes forming partnership with the community, identifying the underlying cause of crime and disorder, and jointly finds solutions that would disallow reoccurrence of the problem.
