Windhoek City Police Service comprises of 539 uniform members, and 82 civilian members. The Service is divided into two components; Operational and Administrative. Operational component has two units, which are: Crime Prevention and Traffic Management, while the Administrative component consists of three support divisions, which are: Office of the Chief, Human Resources and Finance, and Information Management.

HOW DO I BECOME A WINDHOEK CITY POLICE OFFICER?  

Vacant posts are advertised in the media, you will therefore need to constantly check your local or national newspapers. You may also contact City Police Human Resource directly to enquire as to whether vacancies exist within the departments and when the relevant posts will be advertised.

The Minimum Requirements:

Candidates looking to become Windhoek City police officers must fulfil a number of requirements in order to be eligible for employment.

  • Applicants must be a Namibian citizen
  • Must not be under the age of 18
  • Must not been convicted of a criminal offence
  • Must be in possession of a B or BE license. (Professional Authorization (PA) Driving License will be added advantage)

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 with a minimum of 25 points
  • Bachelor Degree in Adult Education and Community Development
  • Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice/Policing
  • Basic Traffic Diploma or Basic Police Diploma (will be an added advantage)

Examinations Required

  • Aptitude tests
  • Medical examination
  • Finger prints to be taken
  • Physical health test
  • Mental tests (as the Council may determine)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of law and order
  • Enforcement of Municipal By-laws and Criminal Procedure Act
  • Partaking in zonal Patrol
  • Liaison with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Assist in joint operation
  • Enforcement of Road Traffic and Transportation Act.
  • Perform Traffic Control functions
  • Assist in Road safety and public awareness
  • Complete accident/crash report
